Following the information contained in these pages, it will be possible to go and discover the Valle Umbra (valley of Umbria region) in all its varied aspects. L’Italia ha un patrimonio di biodiversità tra i più importanti d’Europa, sia per numero totale di specie diverse, sia gli endemismi presenti. Nel Belpaese si contano oltre il 30% di specie animali e quasi il 50% di quelle vegetali presenti nel continente europeo… Da queste considerazioni nasce il nostro viaggio tra ambiente e biodiversità!
Italy has got a biodiversity heritage which is among the most important in Europe both for the total number of different species and for the various endemic species. In the so called ‘Belpaese’ (Italian word used to enhance the beauty of the country) we can count over 30% of the animal species and almost 50% of the vegetal ones out of the total presence in Europe. Following these observations we can start our trip through the environment and the biodiversity!

Oltre 900 elementi del ‘sacro popolare’ censiti, dai centri storici, alla campagna, sino alle aree montane, trovando ovunque, anche nei recessi più reconditi, edicole votive, maestà, immagini devozionali, edicole trasformate in chiese.

A census has been conducted on over 900 elements of ‘sacropopolare’ (working-class sacred) ranging from the historic centres to the countryside and the mountain areas and discovering, even in the most recondite hide outs, more and more votive aedicules, majesties, veneration icons and aedicules converted into churches.

595 siti censiti: dai centri antichi di Assisi, Bevagna, Collemancio di Cannara (l’antica Urvinum Hortense), Spello, Spoleto e Bettona a luoghi straordinariamente inseriti nel territorio, come i ponti della via Flaminia e la chiesa di San Salvatore al Clitumno e tanto altro ancora.
The archaeological paths in the ‘Umbrian Valley’.
A census has been conducted on 595 sites: from the ancient centres of cities such as Assisi, Bevagna, Collemancio di Cannara (the ancient Urvinum Hortense), Spello, Spoleto and Bettona to various locations which have been extraordinarily integrated in the territory, like the Flaminia route bridges, the ‘San Salvatore al Clitumno’ church and so much more.

Up until a few decades ago so much of our valley was covered from vines of ‘trebbiano spoletino’ married to maple or elm. From this story comes our tale dedicated to an environment of the Umbrian Valley that is gradually disappearing…
